Bruce Bay, West Coast, New Zealand

I'm working on a project in my digital imaging studio about human's desire to leave parts of themselves in places they've been, as if we as humans are afraid to be forgotten. When Josh and I were on our camper van trip in New Zealand a couple months ago, we stumbled across Bruce Bay right as you swing onto the West Coast halfway between Haast and Fox Glacier. This place blew my mind. Over a kilometre of stone piles called cairns with little messages on them as well as driftwood piled up and pieces of people that they left there and hung from the driftwood. There was anything from bras to usb cords, shirts, ripped pant legs, shoes, etc. Hundreds of people have come through here and stopped along the road just like we did right along side the gorgeous blue ocean waves licking at the shore. Anyway, I thought I'd put up a few photos from Bruce Bay, as it is one of my all time favourite places in New Zealand

Hardly ever are the best places that capture every fiber of our being the ones we plan to discover.
