Roadtripping the South Island of New Zealand

It’s about time I’ve updated! I have been so incredibly busy and on the go all the time. I finally arrived in Christchurch a day late after we diverted to Wellington because of fog in Christchurch -and I thought nothing else could go wrong!

I spent a few days in Christchurch with Brylie, got there in time for her 21st and met a lot of great people and saw old faces. After that we drove down to Timaru where Josh lives and I was there for a few days exploring with Josh, hiking with his mum and hanging out with Josh and his flatmates. On Sunday, we got our little camper van, packed up and headed off to Lake Tekapo. That was last night, and this morning we woke up to freezing temperatures with ice on the big windows of the camper van and snow surrounding us in all directions. We woke up to the view of the sun rising over Lake Tekapo and the sun sparkling in the sunlight. It is perfectly, blissfully, wonderfully beautiful in ways I couldn’t begin to describe with words, which is why this is a photoblog! Today we took a big walk around part of the lake, had fish and chips by the lake, did a bit of shopping, walked down to the church and then tonight we went ice skating and went to the hot pools. We celebrated the 4th of July in a foot of snow and the sunny, cold and for me, it was revisiting my childhood memories of camping at Lake Tekapo with my family when I was 11 years old and going on the Air Safari and the helicopter ride up near Mt. Cook before the hot pools and ice skating rink where built. Besides walking to the bathroom in freezing temps for a 1am pee, Tekapo is awesome.

So far, our road trip has been awe-inspiring, beautiful and utterly perfect. Today also marks the two year anniversary of the day Josh and I met and fell in love head over heels in the one week we knew each other. Two years later, here we are, engaged, crazy in love and having the time of our lives talking about wedding plans, playing in the snow, meeting his family and friends and being continually in shock and awe of the absolute beauty of this country.

Tomorrow we head to Mt. Cook where his sister Ingrid works and then to Twizel, Cromwell, Queenstown, Wanaka, Arrowtown, Haast, Hokitika, Franz Josef, Greymouth, Blenheim, Nelson, Kaikoura, Hanmer and then back to Timaru. I’m stoked. I’m going to try to keep up better with these blog updates but there’s not always internet where we’re going so I’ll do my best.
Between Tim Tams, fish and chips, being the legal drinking age, New Zealand chocolate, the freshest, juciest, most perfect fruit I’ve ever had, not having a McTummy Ache after going to a fast food restaurant and the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen in my entire life, I could live here forever and die happy. I can’t imagine leaving this heaven so I’m just not going to think about it and enjoy every second I have here. Happy 4th of July to all of you in America and enjoy your warm weather!
